How to Make Sure Tanning Indoors doesn’t Affect your Eyes

Tanning GogglesWhile using eye protection, often referred to as peepers or goggles, is highly recommended, not everyone follows these instructions. It is very important to protect your eyes while using an indoor tanning bed or tanning booth. If you don’t, you can damage your retina or cornea. In some cases the damage can be repaired but other types it isn’t possible. You can also end up with cataracts that require expensive surgery. If you don’t get your cataracts taken care of or the surgery isn’t successful, you may end up blind.

All tanning salons are required to offer eye protection, but it may not be of the same quality that you need for the best protection. It is a good idea to invest in quality eye protection that fits your own face well. If any UV light can get into the corners of the eye protection you can still get damage to your eyes.

Since most salons offer a one size fits all approach with eye protection, you can see why you really need to get your own. You can bring them along with you to your tanning sessions. Make sure they have a band that goes around the back of your head so that they stay properly in place while you are using a tanning booth. There are also disposable eye protection that you throw away after each use.

In addition to wearing proper eye protection while taking indoors, you should also close your eyes. The UV rays of indoor tanning beds and booths are much stronger than those from the sun but you may not feel them burning your eyes. Don’t risk damage to your eyes to get a suntan when you can easily prevent it from happening with the right protection.
